Just went through my bookshelf and discovered a book of Tchaikovsky's "Children's Album" for solo piano. Some of the compositions I arrange for marimba and piano (a student plays a solo part on the marimba or xylophone and I play and accompaniment on the piano). I noticed some pencil marks on a few pages. The book was used by my grandmother many years ago who was a professional musician. The handwriting was hers, so she wrote some fingering, pedal marks, phrasing, etc. for her students. That brought some nice memories of my childhood and lessons she gave me when I was about 7 years old. What was really remarkable about her style of teaching was the inspiration and encouragement she gave to her students. And her kindness and care. Sometimes I really want to go back in time...
