ABOUT US



Leonid Sokolovsky is a principal music instructor at PercussionPlayer.com, and has to his credits, over fifteen years of teaching experience. He is a classically trained drummer and percussionist residing in the Silicon Valley, CA. Mr. Sokolovsky is an active freelance musician and has performed with many fine musicians, bands, orchestras, and chamber ensembles in the US,  Europe, and Australia. He truly enjoys sharing his passion for music with those around him!

Bio:

Leonid Sokolovsky began his music studies at the age of eight. He graduated with a Master's degree in Music from San Jose State University where he studied with Anthony J. Cirone, and was a recipient of the Avedis Zildjian Percussion Scholarship. Mr. Sokolovsky received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Schnittke Moscow State Institute of Music, and also completed a two-year program at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music.

​An active orchestral musician, Mr. Sokolovsky has performed with orchestras all over the Bay Area and Europe, such as the San Jose Symphony, Santa Cruz County Symphony, Monterey Symphony, Russian National Orchestra, California Pops Orchestra, Peninsula Symphony, Silicon Valley Symphony, Silicon Valley Brass Band, Nova Vista Symphony, Master Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra, Mission Chamber Orchestra, Saratoga Symphony, Redwood Symphony, Winchester Symphony, Oakland Municipal Band, Pacific Sticks Percussion Ensemble, Stanford Chamber Music LIVE, TheatreWorks, Bay Shore Lyric Opera, and Moscow State Opera. 

As a drumset performer, Leonid has appeared with his own jazz quartet, as well as with various rock, funk, latin, and folk bands throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

 

 

In addition to his extensive performing career, Leonid also has a love for teaching and over twenty years of teaching experience. He has been a graduate assistant at Jose State University, on the music faculty at the Bear Valley Music Camp, and also the music instructor at the Community School of Music and Arts. Mr. Sokolovsky has also coached percussion sections of the Fremont Youth Symphony, the Peninsula Youth Orchestra, and the Golden State Youth Orchestra.


Mr. Sokolovsky spent many summers attending music festivals, including the Australian International Music Festival, and Colmar International Music Festival.

Leonid has been actively involved in the "Bridges to Music " discovery program to bring classical music to local elementary schools. He regularly gives clinics and masterclasses.



In addition to drums and percussion, Mr. Sokolovsky also plays the piano. He is an active member of American Federation of Musicians, Percussive Arts Society, and Music Teachers' Association of California.
