Murdoch's performance

Updated: Mar 6, 2020

Welcome to another performance! Murdoch loves playing double bass drum pedals and decided to work on a song “Shepherd of Fire” by Avenged Sevenfold. Even though the composition is relatively straight forward, the bass drum part is quite challenging. The song begins with an ostinato groove on tom toms and steady quarter notes on the bass drum. There are crash cymbal strokes to emphasize the beginning of a 4-measure phrase. The first verse begins with a relatively simple rock beat and gradually becomes busier with a lot of fast notes on the double bass drums. There are syncopated crash/bass drum strokes on the off beats of the phrase. Murdock does a great job making all 16th notes on the double bass drums very clean and even. Also, he adds quite a bit of improvisation to make it more fun. BTW, it’s his first official drum cover video. Excellent job, Murdoch!
